Judge Adam Petty was appointed to the Fulton County Magistrate Court on November 4, 2024. Originally from East Brunswick, New Jersey, Adam graduated from La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he completed a dual major and excelled as a student-athlete.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree, Adam worked as a computer programmer in the banking industry, rising to the position of Assistant Vice President of Technology Delivery. Despite achieving success in corporate America, Adam returned to the classroom as a law student at the University of Dayton School of Law in Dayton, Ohio. While in law school, Adam served as Executive President of the Student Bar Association and completed several internships including working for the Ohio House of Representatives and the Dayton Unit NAACP.
After graduating law school, Adam was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a Judge Advocate. While on active duty, he deployed to Afghanistan where he served as the senior defense attorney for the region. Adam's other military assignments include serving as a prosecutor, employment law attorney, and part-time military magistrate. Adam received an Honorable discharge from active duty and has continued his service in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Following active duty military service, Adam served as an Assistant District Attorney in Fulton County and prosecuted serious felony offenses with a specialization in criminal street gangs. Since leaving the District Attorney’s Office, Adam has continued practicing law in both the public and private sectors, focusing on criminal law and civil litigation.
Adam is authorized to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, and trial courts in Georgia and Ohio. He is a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, and is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association and the Gate City Bar Association.
Notwithstanding Adam’s volunteerism and career accomplishments, his greatest joy is his family. Adam resides in Southwest Atlanta with his wife and son.
