Judge Catherine Koura was appointed by Chief Magistrate Judge Cassandra Kirk to the Fulton County Magistrate Court bench in December of 2022. Catherine graduated from Emory University magna cum laude with B.A. in Psychology. Her graduating Honors thesis was on subject of Love. Catherine graduated from Georgia State University College of Law where she received the CALI Award for Litigation Law. During her third year in Law School, Catherine worked as a court-annexed mediator for the Fulton County Magistrate Court. Catherine focuses her private practice on civil litigation, representing employers, insurers, self-insurers, as well as third-party administrators before the state courts throughout Georgia. Catherine is currently serving Post 5 (Atlanta) for the State Bar of Georgia Board of Governors and has been appointed to serve on multiple committees, including Member Benefits Committee, as well as Disciplinary Rules and Procedures Committee.
Catherine also serves as a Special Master for the Supreme Court of Georgia. She was appointed by the Supreme Court to preside over cases addressing alleged attorney misconduct. Catherine has served as a guest lecturer at the Georgia State University Robinson College of Business and the Georgia State College of Law. Catherine's prior work experience includes starting and heading an in-house legal department for one of Georgia's largest workers' compensation insurance carriers. She has extensive experience with labor and employment law. While at Georgia State, Catherine conducted multi-disciplinary research between the psychology department and law school, which was published. Catherine is a Certified Court Annexed Mediator and a Certified Private Mediator. Catherine is fluent in Russian and served as a translator for the Russian Olympic delegation during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Catherine is a proud mother of two teenagers and one Rottweiler.
